Jia and Angel shines
Philippines continues to grow in Volleyball.
In the recently concluded 2024 AVC Cup, Philippines finally experienced a podium finish.
Jia Morado was awarded as Best Setter while volleyball prodigy Angel Canino debuted in the Volleyball National Team with a Best Opposite Spiker award.
De Guzman shared in an interview: "This one, this one is a big bonus and I owe it also to lahat ng na-experience ko every since I started playing, lahat po ng coaches and players na na-encounter ko. They made me who I am today. So, maraming salamat po.”
Canino’s reaction for winning an Individual Award: “Nagulat ako na naging Best Opposite Spiker ako kasi knowing this AVC marami akong kalaban sa spot ko so I didn't expect anything, and hindi ko naman talaga hinabol talaga 'yung itong award na 'to. It's more on making a history talaga for the Philippines and it's more of my teammates din talaga so credits talaga sa teammates ko, sa management, sa mga coaches kasi hindi ko magagawa lahat ng 'to kung hindi dahil sa kanila. Sobrang na-appreciate ko. Itong award na 'to, hindi 'to akin. Para po 'to sa kanila”
In the conclusion of the tournament, Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen won the Most Valuable Player trophy. Le Thanh Thuy from Vietnam and Kazakhstan's Yakimova Yuliya were awarded as Best Middle Blockers.
Australia's Caitlin Tipping and Kazakh Sana Anarkulova were awarded as Best Outside Spikers. Nguyen Khanh Dang of Vietnam was hailed as the Best Libero.
Ranked 3rd out of the 8 participating teams, the National Team is expected to be intact and will boost their line up with key additions of Solomon, Belen and Dongallo for the upcoming Volleyball Nations Live this July 2024.
